Two-way radios can achieve excellent coverage in areas which mobile phones and other communication devices cannot, such as wide open spaces in the middle of nowhere. However, two-way radios struggle to effectively communicate in certain dead spots such as some types of lifts, tunnels and basements. This may be a massive problem for those who work continuously in these areas such as; construction, mining, shopping centres.
The Leaky Feeder is an antenna technology that we can install to be able to get coverage in these dead spots. A leaky feeder effectively acts as a very long antenna. A leaky feeder is a coaxial cable that has small sections of its copper shielding stripped away to allow radio frequency (RF) signals to escape. Leaky feeders are usually mounted permanently to enable 24-hour communications but may be mounted temporarily, e.g. when communications are needed underground in an emergency.
