HOW TO USE RADIOS DURING PHOTO SHOOTS

HOW TO USE RADIOS DURING PHOTO SHOOTS

Many video teams have been in touch to ask us about our radio use on an event day. We have decided to put together this short video on Radio communication.

Communication is one of the most important contributors to creative success when working in a team. We have seen the difference this makes to our productions.

Communicating white balance and settings, informing team members of event activities, camera locations and card and battery changes is often production saving!

The supplier we use for rental or purchase in the UK is: walltowallcomms.co.uk

RUSHMOOR COUNCIL CAR PARKS

RUSHMOOR COUNCIL CAR PARKS

BACKGROUND
Rushmoor Borough Council own and manage a vast amount of car parks in Aldershot, Farnborough and North
Camp in the South of England. We are proud to have them as a loyal client of ours and wish to share with you an
overview of the work we have completed for them.

THE CHALLENGES
Rushmoor Borough Council approached us with the future vision of an effective, modernised, integrated
communications system which was intertwined and connected to other parking offices across
Rushmoor. Rushmore Borough Council also required a wide area coverage and a more efficient and
controlled two-way radio system.

SOLUTION PROVIDED
The digital radio systems upgraded their parking office’s current system. We connected the radios and
sites together via IP links, so that staff can communicate with other across different locations. We
installed a distributed antenna system to boost coverage and installed GPS tracking software on the
radios so that staff can be managed more efficiently.

SOLUTION BENEFITS
· Coverage is improved greatly with the use of digital two-way radios and repeaters
· Upgraded, future proof digital radios that have more capabilities and enhance channel spectrum
efficiently
· All sites can now connect and communicate with each other which increases operational efficiency
and security
· GPS tracking allows greater efficiency whilst managing staff and operations.

PINEWOOD STUDIOS

PINEWOOD STUDIOS

BACKGROUND
Pinewood is one of the world’s leaders for the makers of film, television, commercials and video games. They
have filmed exciting films at their studios including James Bond, Star Wars and Alice in Wonderland. We at Wall
to Wall Communications love what Pinewood as a company do, which made it a particularly special upgrade
project for us to be part of. We were first approached in 2012 for and over the past two years we have been
working with Pinewood to help develop a tailored two-way radio communication system that met their communication
needs.

THE CHALLENGE
Pinewood had originally had a very basic analogue system set up, which was not connecting their two sites. This
was a huge problem as they could not communicate with each other when they needed to.
Pinewood’s main requirement was to upgrade their existing analogue radio system to a digital two-way radio
communication system, which connected both Pinewood and Shepperton studios together. This was so they
were able to communicate internally within each site, and the radios had the capabilities to communicate to each
other across the two sites.

SOLUTION PROVIDED
We upgraded their current analogue fleet to digital two-way radios (Hytera PD705 and Hytera X1p)
Both Pinewood and Shepperton studio sites covered a large surface area; therefore we installed repeaters at both
sites, to boost the coverage. An IP connection was set up to connect both sites so that transmissions can be
made across Shepperton and Pinewood Studio. We also installed the relevant mission critical applications on
their radios, according to their requirements including; remote monitor and lone worker.

SOLUTION BENEFITS
· Improved coverage
· Improved voice clarity – digital two-way radios are noise cancelling therefore voice transmissions are clearer
in noisy environments such as during filming or events
· Upgraded, future proof digital radios that have more capabilities and enhance channel spectrum efficiently
· Both sites are now able to communicate to one another via two-way radio
· Increased communication security using high class digital covert two-way radios

NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY

NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY

BACKGROUND
Founded in 1856, the National Portrait Gallery houses the finest collection of portraits in the world and offers a unique
insight into the men and women who have shaped British history and culture from the late Middle Ages to the present
day. They are a long standing client of ours and we at Wall to Wall Communications are proud to
support them.

THE CHALLENGES
The National Portrait Gallery presented many challenges to us in order to achieve an up-to-date system that was tailored
around their requirements. These challenges and requirements included the following:
· Their analogue system did not meet their requirements any more
· The site was experiencing a range of coverage issues across their site which needed to be rectified and
improved upon
· The National Portrait Gallery needed a communication link between their fire panels and two-way radios
· They needed an integrated solution that meant that if someone unauthorised handled a picture then they would be
alerted on their two-way radios
· Lastly, they required an integrated solution to achieve a communication link from their two-way radios to their telephones

SOLUTION PROVIDED
We upgraded their current analogue two-way radios to Hytera DMR Digital PD6 series radios (PD665 and PD685). We
further added in Hytera RD985 repeaters and antennas to further boost coverage at site.
We then used our integrated technology to link together The National Portrait Gallery’s fire alarms, telephones and picture
alarms to their two-way radios.

SOLUTION BENEFITS
· Telephone interconnect has enhanced the value of their two-way radio system by expanding their
communication network
· Fast-response system to fires, this prevents unnecessary whole site evacuation which causes disruption to guests
and costs a lot of money.
· Fast-response system to unauthorised picture handling, which in turn enhanced security
· Coverage is improved greatly with the use of digital two-way radios and repeaters
· Upgraded, future proof digital radios that have more capabilities and enhance channel spectrum efficiently
