Cellular Repeater System at St George's – Wall to Wall Broadening it's Horizons
Our response to the current economic threat to SME's, has been to adapt and grow in order to ensure that we continue to offer a range of services to meet our clients' communications needs.
We have demonstrated this recently through our contract with St George's Healthcare NHS Trust in Tooting, Southwest London. In addition to carrying out work on their existing Radio Comms system, our engineers have also installed a dual band cellular repeater on site, improving coverage of all major cellular telephone networks. This cellular addition to our usual PMR remit is one way which we have found to support our clients' as part of an even more inclusive service. This system can be replicated in a multitude of settings and we would be particularly interested in talking to our clients in the retail, hotel and leisure industries.
You simply can't ignore the amount in which we rely on our mobile phones, even when you already have a radio comms system in place. More to the point, your customers, clients and staff do not use your radio system, will almost certainly appreciate improved cellular reception.
So, if you're interested in boosting the cellular signal where you work, get in touch today!

As many of you will be well aware, two brave members of our team ran the ASICS British 10K London Run on Sunday the 11th of July. Georgie Parker and Carl Garner represented the admin and sales teams at the event and did a brilliant job. For both of our runners this was their first attempt at a fun run and they had the warm muggy weather to contend with.
Carl has been training for slightly longer than Georgie but he stuck with her for the entire race. They finished the course together after 1hour and 22 minutes showing the team ethic we would all have expected from them.
CEO Barbara Calvert said :
"Here at Wall to Wall Communications we like to encourage talent in any shape or form. To this end we are very proud of Carl and Georgie for their splendid efforts in their charity run for The Starfish Greathearts Foundation – a really worthy charity. Congrats guys, we understand there is more where that came from!"
The Starfish Greathearts Foundation is an international development charity, aiming to bring life, hope and opportunity to children in southern Africa who have been orphaned or made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS. At the last count Georgie and Carl had raised nearly £400 with lots still to collect!
If you would like to sponsor Georgie and Carl you can do so for 6 weeks after the race. Just contact one of them to pledge some cash or log on to Virgin Money Giving (link below) and do the whole thing easily and automatically.

Wall to Wall Communications Ltd becomes SAFEcontractor accredited
The company’s application for SAFEcontractor was driven by the need for a uniform standard across the business.
“We have noticed an increasing demand for the SAFEcontractor accreditation in our work with construction companies in particular. The opportunity to be assessed on our health and safety competency is one which we welcomed and the consultation period with SAFEcontractor coincided with our own policy renewals.
We are immensely proud of our ISO 9001:2008 accreditation which is now complimented with SAFEcontractor approval. Whilst we have always prided ourselves on a high standard of health and safety and business practice it is extremely gratifying to have these standards accredited by such reputable organisations as ISO and SAFEContractor.
After more than thirty years of trading, we very much hope this accreditation will aid our continued ambition to expand.”
Barbara Calvert, CEO : Wall to Wall Communications Ltd.
SAFEcontractor accreditation is expected to enhance the company’s ability to attract new contracts and its commitment to safety will be viewed positively by its insurers when the company liability policy is up for renewal.
SAFEcontractor is applicable to most sectors although it is particularly relevant to food manufacture, construction, facilities management, retail and leisure sectors, all of which are big users of radio communications services.
Darran Hughes, Operations Director : SAFEcontractor said,
“Major organisations can no longer run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies.
More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that Wall to Wall Communications Ltd has done. The firm’s high standard had set an example, which hopefully will be followed by other companies within the sector.”
Under the SAFEcontractor system, businesses undergo a vetting process, which examines health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practice.
Those companies meeting the high standard are included on a database, which is accessible to registered users only via the SAFEcontractor website, www.safecontractor.com.
Employer-organisations who sign up to the scheme can access the database of approved contractors, which enables them to vet potential contractors before they even set foot on site. These employers agree that, as users of the scheme, they will engage only with those who have received accreditation.
The database of all approved contractors is accessible free of charge to non-members too. Allowing anyone to view all SAFEcontractor approved companies and their contact details.
Over one hundred and twenty major nation-wide businesses, from several key sectors, have signed up to use the scheme when selecting contractors for services such as building, cleaning, maintenance, refurbishment or electrical and mechanical work.

Notes to editors:
SAFEcontractor is a third party accreditation scheme that assesses health and safety arrangements. Many major clients recognise the scheme and accept the SAFEcontractor certificate as confirmation of competency. You only need to be assessed once and not by every client and prospect.

End of Financial Year Report 08/09 – 09/10
This past year Wall to Wall communications Ltd has performed strongly despite the recent turbulence of the market. We have experienced a slight decrease in turnover but this has been in line with what we had anticipated. Careful forward planning has ensured that we stay ahead of the game through cutting costs where possible; without affecting our high standard of service. The following initiatives have all contributed to the strength of our current position.
Ownership of premises
Investment in the future of the company has been demonstrated through the purchasing of business premises. The new office is a three storey building based in Sutton, Surrey comprising of a workshop and dispatch area, an admin and accounts floor, and a sales, finance and marketing department. A System Design Workshop is currently under development which will provide us with the increased space and facilities to continue with this growing aspect of our business. The ownership of this business premises at Unilink House has allowed Wall to Wall Communications to control utility and maintenance costs which has contributed to the efficiency of our outgoings. Our leasing era has ended!
Green Initiatives
A move towards green business activities has contributed to this decrease in unnecessary spending. Saving energy through diligence with lighting and heating in the office has proven economically as well as environmentally sensible. We are also moving towards a ‘paper-free’ office wherever possible through the use of email rather than post. Recycling has been part of our environmental policy for many years and will continue into the future. All used paper is shredded and re-used for packing. In addition to our stringent recycling policy we have recently begun to operate meetings over Skype thus reducing our carbon footprint in terms of miles travelled and fuel used.
Investing in People
Towards the end of 2009 Wall to Wall Communications took steps to increase brand awareness within the marketplace through hiring a Marketing Officer, Laura, for whom a priority has been to raise the Company’s profile. This has been a huge success so far with the website gaining hits every week. We have introduced a ‘Meet the Team’ page as well as ‘Newsflash’, with ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ and a revised ‘Hire page’ currently in development. We have also launched social networking sites across Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. These sites have cemented our online presence and, in addition to our Wordpress blog, have directed new clients to our services. They also allow another form of communication between account managers and their clients, something which we encourage wholeheartedly. More information on our social networking activities can be found within our ‘Newsflash’ page.
Wall to Wall Communications is soon to launch a monthly newsletter which will feature company news and exciting product launches. We will also be offering the opportunity to advertise within this newsletter which will have a circulation of approx 1400. In addition to this, we have received positive media coverage and have ongoing media interest in projects we are currently working on.
The team has grown in other departments too; admin has welcomed Georgie, and Nick has replaced Enlin in finance. We wish Enlin congratulations on the birth of her baby boy in December and look forward to seeing her back after her Maternity leave is over. The sales team has expanded with the addition of Natasha who assists our National Accounts Manager, Ola, whilst learning the ropes in terms of the rest of the company. As of the next academic year (September 2010), we also plan to take on a local young apprentice within the workshop who will learn about Sytem Design and Programming amongst other technical skills. Work experience placements for secondary aged students are available on an ongoing basis within all departments. In the past year we have had one recurring student, James, who has shown an interest and flair in the marketing and IT aspects of the company.
Continuation of Excellent Quality of Service
It is our firm belief that the ongoing success of Wall to Wall Communications is due to the first rate service we offer to our clients both at the point of sale and after sales care. It seems that, even in a time of recession, health and safety is something which companies cannot and will not compromise on. Our ongoing maintenance and support services have kept us afloat during this difficult economic situation.
Professional accreditations gained or renewed last year included ISO 9001:2008 and SAFEContractor.
The Future: New Year, New Opportunities
2009/2010 – 2010/2011 is full of exciting prospects for Wall to Wall Communications. We hope to continue our partnerships with companies working at the Olympic development site in Stratford. So far we have installed comms systems on site for Senator Security, BAM Nuttall and Keltbray.
Our work with University College London continues and we have recently upgraded the onsite trunked multi-site system. This represents our high standard and first rate capabilities with designing bespoke communications systems to fit the clients’ specific needs; something we are seeing requested more and more. Further in-depth details can be supplied, just give us a call and ask for Ola.
The demand for digital systems has been steadily picking up pace and we were delighted to have supplied our first digital systems this past year. With the new System Design Workshop and an apprentice on the staff we will have the ability to continue with this exciting new technology on an even greater scale. Clients are now encouraged to visit for FREE live demos and a spot of refreshments with our engineers and account executives.
Last year we launched Icom’s iDAS system which has received great interest. This year we have plenty more exciting products to launch. Radio upgrades, software upgrades and tracking systems. By remaining up to date with these technological developments and working on maintaining strong relationships with our manufacturing partners we are able to provide workable comms solutions and excellent service to all existing and new clientele.
We are optimistic about the future of Wall to Wall Communications. We are going into our 32nd year of trading this year and are confident that we will continue to go from strength to strength.

Wall to Wall Comms Embrace Social Networking
You simply cannot avoid the lure of online social networking. Facebook, Twitter, Bebo, MySpace and Flickr are all over the news and the popular media every day. It seems that everyone with something [ . . . ]
You simply cannot avoid the lure of online social networking. Facebook, Twitter, Bebo, MySpace and Flickr are all over the news and the popular media every day. It seems that everyone with something to say is saying it in 40 characters or less across the World Wide Web. The BBC recently reported that their news journalists have been told they must make better use of social media as a source and tool in their reporting [1]. Whilst it has been reported in the USA that for the first time Facebook has registered more visits in one week than Google.com [2].
Bearing all of this in mind it would, in our opinion, be foolish not to get involved in this social networking phenomenon and all of the benefits which come with it.
Twitter http://twitter.com/WTWComms
We have joined Twitter in order to encourage open interaction between us and any interested party. Our followers include many of our clients, Wall to Wall employees, partner businesses, news agencies, walkie talkie enthusiasts and local organisations.
Our Twitter account has proven to be invaluable for keeping an eye on our clients and seeing what they’re up to on a day to day basis. Allowing us to tailor our service, making sure we are there for them immediately should they need us. An example of this occurred when one of our clients tweeted an announcement of a planned outdoor event. We saw the tweet immediately and called them to discuss their radio comms requirements straight away. This saved the client time and also gave us the opportunity to present them with a full radio comms solution before they had even had the time to worry about it.
Twitter also allows us to share our news and to comment on issues affecting the radio comms industry.
Facebook http://www.facebook.com/walltowallcomms
Our Facebook fan page provides us with an informal platform which can be used for dialogue with clients and partners. They can ask questions, view photos and comment on our news. We use Facebook to promote the personal nature of Wall to Wall and embrace the opportunity to have fun with our ‘fans’.
We are also planning to launch competitions and special offers on the Facebook fan page very soon. These will be exclusive to our fans and will provide an incentive to keep communicating on an informal basis. Ideally we would like our Facebook page to be a two way thing. We will definitely avoid using it as a platform for ‘in your face’ advertising. One thing which has become clear in our discovery and investigation into the world of social networking is that good ‘netiquette’ is essential. The last thing we want to do is alienate or worse, irritate our ‘fans’.
LinkedIn http://www.linkedin.com
LinkedIn is a business-oriented social networking site which is growing in popularity rapidly. All members of the sales and marketing teams at Wall to Wall have profiles and our connections are increasing fast:
Barbara (CEO) http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/barbara-calvert/8/5b7/1bb
Sam (MD) http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/sam-cohen/4/7a3/790
Brent (Sales) http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/brent-coe/1a/923/598
Carl (Sales) http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/carl-garner/1a/726/ba
Ola (Sales) http://uk.linkedin.com/in/olagwozdz
Natasha (Sales) http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/natasha-woods/1a/626/407
Laura (Marketing) http://uk.linkedin.com/in/lauradagg
It is the perfect platform for business social networking because users opt-in to connect with people they have worked with. This means that everyone is happy to communicate and, even better than that, they want to talk business. You can ask for advice as well as having the opportunity to respond to other peoples’ queries. LinkedIn is an excellent tool for business and is one we would recommend to all of our business partners.
We welcome any new fans, followers, connections and friends to get in touch with us. We firmly believe that communication is the cornerstone of good customer service. Wall to Wall Communications remains open minded with regards to customer feedback and we're always looking for ways to improve our standard of service through listening to our clients.

We are delighted to announce our involvement in the Cuilfail Tunnel (A26) refurbishment programme. The radio communications requirement is to provide seamless commercial radio coverage through the whole tunnel. Work has begun this month (Jan 2010) during planned off-peak tunnel closures.
Our technicians will install a complete system within the tunnel which will allow cars to receive uninterrupted radio coverage. CEO at Wall to Wall Communications, Barbara Calvert is “thrilled to be involved in this exciting programme as it highlights Wall to Wall’s technological capabilities.” The Cuilfail Tunnel system could be recreated in any other location. It could also be adapted to allow mobile telephone coverage which would be of huge benefit to commuters who travel across the country on a regular basis.

This year we are delighted to announce that the organisation we have chosen to donate our Christmas charity money to is The London Wildcare Trust. We selected this charity at random from a short list of local charities which were nominated by our staff.
The London Wildcare Trust is based in Beddington Park, Wallington and they provide vital care for wild animals found injured in and around London. They also provide an educational service for school parties and organise public events to provide as much information as possible to the general public. A new visitor centre is also being planned. This will include a demonstration wildlife garden and is due for completion at the end of this year.
Funded entirely by public donations, The London Wildcare Trust is comprised of:
- A specialist wildlife hospital and rehabilitation centre in Wallington
- A highly trained wildlife rescue team
- A wildlife crime liaison team
“London Wildcare was delighted to receive a cheque from Wall to Wall, they supply and maintain our licensed radio system, which keeps our staff at the hospital in touch with our mobile animal rescue teams, who are out on the road responding to emergency calls and saving lives. Our partnership with Wall to Wall is invaluable and this wonderful donation will be put to very good use in helping is to care for and protect our local wildlife”
- Ted Burden, Founder and Director.

The benefits of Digital Private Mobile Radio (dPMR) were recently demonstrated in an incident in Lewisham Shopping Centre in south-east London. Duabo Denni-Fiberesima (known as Denni), a security guard for Senator Security, saved the life of 2 year old toddler Peter Griffiths. He was able to get medical support to a former radio dead spot thanks to the improved radio coverage of the Icom IDAS digital radios, supplied by radio communications specialist Wall to Wall Communications.
Denni showed true heroism, responding quickly to the child when he stopped breathing and collapsed. He administered CPR twice until the ambulance arrived at the scene.
Sam Cohen, Managing Director at Wall to Wall, said " The amazing thing about this incident was that a brand new digital IDAS radio system from Icom was installed just one day before the incident. The improved radio coverage from the new digital radio system may have assisted in saving this little boy's life."

Staff at Wall to Wall celebrated the end of an excellent year, despite the dreaded credit crunch, with a Christmas party at Best Parties Ever in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey. The night was a themed event called ‘To Russia with Love’. This included a sumptuous three course dinner accompanied by Bond girls and a thrilling Cossack dance finale. After dinner we worked off all those calories with a lot of dancing and bumper-car rides.
Secret Santa also made an appearance!
A great time was had by all and the party, along with the Christmas break, left us refreshed and ready for a busy 2010.
